Acer Travelmate's have used DDR3, DDR4 and the latest models DDR5 RAM. Earlier models using DDR3 RAM the largest compatible module was 8GB. In the DD$ and DDR5 range the largest module is 32GB. Please check your model number for compatibility and you can see what type of RAM your computer uses by going to Task Manager. 

Travelmate notebooks using DDR3 RAM are an excellent choice for an SSD upgrade. The mechanical hard drive is only transfering data at 50-100mb/s but thye SATA limit is over 500mb/s. An SSD transfers data at the SATA limit, this is why we say an SSD upgrade speeds up your computer between 5x to 10x.

The 16GB DDR3 soDIMM was never manufactured in commercial quantites, because of low compatibility rates. No Travelmate notebook we know of uses a 16GB DDR3 soDIMM. The largest compatible module was 8GB in the DDR3 range.
