Vostro (Notebook)

Dell Vostro notebook RAM and storage capacity depends on the model. Older Vostro 3000 and 5000 series support 8GB to 16GB of DDR3 or DDR4 RAM with two upgradeable slots. Newer models support up to 32GB of DDR4 or LPDDR4X RAM, though some ultrathin versions have non-upgradeable soldered memory. Most Vostro laptops have a 2.5" SATA slot for up to 2TB of SSD or HDD storage, and many newer models also include an M.2 NVMe SSD slot that supports up to 1TB or 2TB. Some laptops offer dual storage options using both slots.

To upgrade the RAM on a Dell Vostro notebook, shut down the laptop and unplug all devices. Remove the back panel screws and lift off the cover to access the RAM slots. Ground yourself to prevent static damage, then release the clips on the existing RAM and remove it. Insert the new RAM by aligning the notch with the slot and pressing it down until it clicks. Reassemble the laptop, reconnect the power, and turn it on. Check the new RAM in BIOS by pressing F2 during startup, or verify it in Windows under Task Manager > Performance > Memory.

To upgrade storage on a Dell Vostro notebook, shut down the laptop and unplug all cables. Remove the back cover by unscrewing it. Ground yourself to prevent static damage. Locate the storage compartment (2.5" SATA or M.2 slot). If replacing the drive, unscrew and disconnect the old drive. Insert the new SSD or HDD and secure it. For M.2 SSD, insert at an angle and press down. Reassemble the laptop, screw the cover back on, reconnect the power, and turn it on.
