• Should I upgrade my Acer?
Upgrading your Acer computer can give it new life and make it very fast without spending lots of money on a brand new computer. A lot of older model computers have a standard mechanical hard drive and 2GB - 4GB of memory. Memory is used for multi tasking and allows the computer to do more at once which means that with 4GB of memory you may only be able to have a few browser tabs open at once along with a few programs before it starts to freeze up and lag. Upgrading the memory to 8GB - 16GB (Depending on computer model) can allow your computer to run more programs, open more browser tabs and improve overall performance.
Standard mechanical hard drives have an average read of 75MB/s however when you are running an operating system off a standard hard drive you will find that it is a lot slower as the operating system is constantly reading and writing from it. So it slows it down further (expect speeds around the 25-50MB/s mark) you can test this yourself by copying a large file and seeing the speed in which it transfers. Replacing the standard hard drive with a solid state drive shows improvements in speed of up to 10x (and more) seeing as solid state drives having a read speed on average of 500MB/s. Not only will this better read speed allow you to copy files faster but it will give your computer a huge performance boost. A good example of this is your computer starting up in under 30 seconds. Applications and software will also open almost instantly and waiting for computer games to load becomes a thing of the past. Another advantage of solid state drives is that they are more reliable than standard drives as there are no moving parts inside giving it a longer life and minimising chances of files being corrupted.
The one down side of solid state drives is that you will no longer be able make yourself a tea or coffee while the computer starts (as it starts up so fast now).
If you are sick of waiting for applications to start, your computer freezing and running slowly than you should certainly consider an upgrade for your Acer. You will regret not doing it sooner after seeing the performance increase!

• How do I find the model number of my Acer laptop?
Acer series/model numbers can found on the bottom of the laptop, or sometimes in the lower right hand side of LCD Screen.
Alternatively you can try these 2 things:
- You can find the model on the Acer Aspire by pressing the "Windows" key, typing "dxdiag" and then clicking the "dxdiag.exe" link. The model is listed in the System Model section of the System tab.
- Alternatively, press "Windows," type "msinfo32" and click the "msinfo32.exe" link.
• I've already maxed out the RAM, what else can I do to make my Acer faster?
Then you should consider replacing your existing HDD with an SSD(solid state drive)
Upgrading the memory in your computer is usually the first step to increasing it's performance. Additional memory allows you to run more applications simultaneously without the computer slowing down. It also allows you to multi-task to a much greater degree as your applications, email, web browsing, etc. all have more RAM to use to run efficiently.
However additional RAM does not solve all the issues of a "slow" computer. If you find that it takes Windows a long time to load or your spreadsheets are taking minutes before they are ready to use, then you should consider swapping out your old spinning HDD for an SSD.
SSDs will run up to 12 times faster then a HDD and will have Windows loading and ready to use within seconds instead of minutes. All complex programs, high res video, complex audio and other large applications will load, ready to use, within seconds instead of taking several minutes before being ready to utilise.
In a working environment, waiting minutes each time a new program loads or for your computer to be ready to use, is a time consuming and costly exercise. Added up, wait times increase to hours lost when totaled over the course of just a week.
None of us here have that kind of time to waste, do you?
